Directors Lab: Melbourne

Presented in partnership with Melbourne Festival and Melbourne Theatre Company. Supported by the Ian Potter Foundation.

Inspired by the Lincoln Centre model, Directors Lab: Melbourne is an eight day creative laboratory held in collaboration with Melbourne Festival.

The program accepts 30 directors from across Australia and the world, to participate in eight days of masterclasses, performance and rigorous debate with leading national and international theatre makers.

In 2016, over 65 artists were engaged in the Lab, with participating directors attending from across Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Spain. Guest directors have included Peter Sellars (US), Moisés Kaufman (US) and Robert Lepage (Canada).

‘I think my practice can never be the same having experienced the Directors Lab. I feel I have never been surrounded by so many diverse minds, so many different ways of working, or ways of thinking, of not just theatre but also the world.’
