Prophet
VENUE
by jodi gallagher
“All that is solid melts into air, all that is sacred is profaned.”
Award-winning playwright Jodi Gallagher returns to the stage after a long hiatus with Prophet – a winner of the Ross Trust Script Development Award. Featuring a stellar cast and a multi-Green Room award winning design team, Prophet will be a landmark production for this year’s theatre season.
A man returns to his broken city from a devastating war. He brings home a vision of the end of the world. In the middle of the banalities of everyday life and political expediency, events converge on a violent act of betrayal. Prophet explores lovers, mothers, sons, fathers and politics in the end times.
Theatre Works is transformed into an immersive world: fragments of buildings, scaffolding holding homes together and providing shelter for those who wander the streets, people living their lives between disaster and catastrophe against a breathtaking soundscape of a city in crisis.
The audience are invited to move through this landscape with the performers – a world both alien and familiar; the spectacular design evoking the experiences we’ve endured in the last few years.
Searching for faith, searching for certainty, searching for answers to eternal questions.
Searching for truth. Looking for someone to love.
