Careful: she might hear you.

EARSHOT is a work-in-development driven by Kate’s lifetime obsession of eavesdropping on the private
conversations of complete strangers.

For two weeks in February, Kate will be an anonymous residence in public St. Kilda locations, listening in to your spoken exchanges. Situated with laptop in hand and a touch-typing speed of 40 words per minute, she’ll take note of your arguments, your negotiations, your lists of ailments, your tender endearments, your children’s tantrums, and your private utterances. She’ll be writing them down and using them later.

Built using overheard stories gathered from the general public in cafes, parks and trams, EARSHOT is an epic poem of eavesdropping, combining the Homeric tradition of oral storytelling with voice-activated text projection to offer a fly-on-the-wall insight into the lives of others: personal, epic, comic and sometimes devastating.

"Hunter’s words have that trained liveness... to allow each recollection a moment’s return."
JOHN BAILEY, REAL TIME ON "MEMORANDUM"

"Hunter’s performance is outstanding ... a compelling examination of one’s own mind and memory."
LISA ROMEO, TOORAK TIMES ON "MEMORANDUM"
